Palms are not lacking in Puerto Rico, and if they seem invisible to the islanders, it becomes for an outsider a symbol of the island. This symbol becomes dual, in a precarious balance, recalling the alienation of the Puertorican identity: between multiculturalism (Creole, Spanish, American), and American acculturation. The spectator, when he looks at the sculpture, can also see himself in the mirror that serves as a base for the pieces.

Les palmiers ne manquent pas à Porto Rico, et si ils semblent invisibles pour les insulaires, ils deviennent pour un individu extérieur tout un symbole de l'île. Ce symbole devient ici double, dans un équilibre précaire, rappelant l'aliénation de l'identité portoricaine : entre multiculturalité créole, espagnole, et acculturation américaine. Le spectateur, quand il regarde la sculpture, peut s'apercevoir dans le miroir qui sert de socle.
