Between religious ceremony and pagan symbol, this video shows the perpetual fire of a Christmas tree left after the winter holidays. In the background, the Agnus Dei from Berlioz's Requiem resonates, transforming a suburban riot image into a ritual and polysemic fire, at the same time the burning bush of the Old Testament, a fire of joy in the Nordic countries, and a revolt against authority.

Far from the festive city centers, it sometimes happens in our latitudes that the outlying zones ignite. The Christmas tree then takes on the insurrectionary appearance of urban despair.

Thomas Perrin’s work, wrapped in a romantic sonic envelope, also reaches out to the ancient pagan festivals that welcomed the winter solstice with a great bonfire—celebrating the knowledge that after this climax, the days would slowly begin to lengthen, and the sun, once again, would ultimately triumph in a great blaze.

A video that unfolds somewhere between news imagery and the allegory of the Phoenix. Both transformed, through the magic of this young creator, into a true 'fait d'hiver'…"
